Understanding Credits

Let's talk about credits—how they work, what they cost, and some practical tips for getting the most out of them.

The Basics

Credits are Canvora's currency. Every time you create a visual, you spend credits. It's a straightforward system: more visuals = more credits used.

Your current balance is always visible in the sidebar (on desktop) or the top navigation (on mobile). No surprises.

How Many Credits Does Each Visual Cost?

Here's a simple guide:

Visual TypeCredits
Single social media post1 credit
Quote card1 credit
YouTube thumbnail1 credit
Email header1 credit
Carousel slide1 credit per slide
Presentation slide1 credit per slide
Editing a visual1 credit

So if you're creating a full content package—say, 3 Instagram posts, a 5-slide carousel, a YouTube thumbnail, and a couple of LinkedIn graphics—you're looking at around 12 credits total.

Carousels and presentations can have 1-10 slides. A 7-slide LinkedIn carousel uses 7 credits.

Two Types of Credits

Monthly Credits (Subscription)

These come with your paid plan and refresh each month on your billing date:

PlanMonthly CreditsPrice
Starter100 credits$19/month
Pro300 credits$49/month
Business750 credits$99/month

Important: Monthly credits don't roll over. Use them before your billing date or they reset.

Top-Up Credits (One-Time Purchase)

Need more credits mid-month? Top-ups are available for paid subscribers:

PackageCreditsPricePer Credit
Small50 credits$12$0.24
Medium150 credits$29$0.19
Large400 credits$59$0.15

Top-up credits never expire. Buy them when you need them without pressure to use them immediately.

Note: Top-up purchases require an active paid subscription (Starter, Pro, or Business).

Which Credits Get Used First?

When you create visuals, your monthly credits are used first. Once those are gone, top-up credits kick in automatically. This way, your subscription credits don't go to waste.

Getting Started with Free Credits

Every new account gets free credits to try things out. These let you explore the platform, create a few visuals, and see if Canvora fits your workflow.

Free plan limitations:

  • Watermarked outputs
  • 2K resolution (paid plans get 4K)
  • No brand kits

Making Your Credits Go Further

Here are some things we've learned from watching how people use Canvora:

Plan before you create. Spend a minute thinking about which platforms you actually need. It's easy to check all the boxes, but if you're never going to use Pinterest, why create for it?

Set up your brand kit first. When your brand is configured, you get consistent results right away. That means fewer edits trying to get the look right.

Be specific with your edit requests. "Make the text bigger" works. "Make it better" is vague and might not get you where you want to go—and each edit uses a credit.

Batch similar content. If you have three blog posts to create visuals for, doing them in one session often feels more efficient than spreading it out.

Checking Your Usage

Head to Transaction History in your dashboard to see a complete log of your credit activity. Every visual created, every purchase, every subscription renewal—it's all there. You can filter by date if you want to track usage over a specific period.

Running Low?

When your credits are getting low, you'll see a heads up. You can top up anytime from the pricing page (if you're on a paid plan).

If you completely run out, you can still access everything you've already created and download those images—you just won't be able to create new ones until you add more credits.

Common Questions

Do credits expire? Top-up credits never expire. Monthly subscription credits reset at your billing date each month—use 'em or lose 'em.

Can I share credits with teammates? Not on individual plans. If you need shared credits, the Business plan supports team collaboration.

What if I'm not happy with a visual? We get it—sometimes things don't turn out right. While we can't refund credits for visuals you didn't like, using the edit feature is often faster than starting over, and our prompt tips guide can help you get better results.

Can I buy top-ups on the free plan? No, top-up purchases require an active paid subscription. This ensures you get the full Canvora experience—4K resolution, no watermarks, and brand kits—with your purchased credits.
