Understanding Credits

How credits work, what visuals cost, and tips for getting the most out of them

5 min read Beginner

Credits are how you pay for visuals in Canvora. Every generation, edit, or variation uses credits. Here's everything you need to know.

What Do Visuals Cost?

ActionCredits
Single image (social post, thumbnail, email header, etc.)10 credits
Carousel or presentation slide15 credits per slide
Editing a visual10 credits per image
Batch editing multiple images10 credits per image
Image variation10 credits

Carousels and presentations can have 1–10 slides. A 7-slide LinkedIn carousel costs 105 credits (7 × 15).

Example: Creating 3 Instagram posts (30), a 5-slide carousel (75), and a YouTube thumbnail (10) = 115 credits total.

You always see the exact credit cost in the confirmation panel before generating — no surprises.

Credit Plans

Free Plan

Every account starts with 150 free credits — a one-time bonus to try the platform. Once they're used up, that's it. Free plan outputs include a watermark and are limited to 2K resolution.

Free users also get their first image edit free — a great way to try the editing feature without spending credits.

PlanMonthly CreditsPrice
Starter1,000 credits$19/month
Pro2,500 credits$49/month
Business5,000 credits$99/month

All paid plans include: no watermarks, 4K resolution, brand kits, image editing, and API access. Annual billing saves ~20%.

Monthly credits refresh when your subscription renews (i.e., when your next invoice is paid). Unused monthly credits don't roll over — use them before your billing date or they reset.

Top-Up Credits

Need more credits? Buy top-up packs anytime:

PackageCreditsPrice
Small500 credits$10
Medium1,250 credits$25
Large2,500 credits$55

Top-up credits never expire. They stay in your account until you use them. Available on all plans, including Free.

How Credits Are Deducted

Your balance is made up of two pools:

  • Monthly balance — from your subscription, resets each billing cycle
  • Top-up balance — from one-time purchases, never expires

When you generate or edit, monthly credits are used first. Once monthly credits run out, top-up credits kick in automatically. This ensures your subscription credits don't go to waste.

Your effective balance = monthly balance + top-up balance. You can see both in the Subscription page.

Workspace Credits

If you're part of a workspace, credits work differently. Workspaces have two shared credit pools — a monthly pool (resets each billing cycle) and a top-up pool (never expires). The owner funds these from their account balance. Each member gets an allowance — a guaranteed reservation from the pool set by the owner or admin.

When you generate in a workspace context, credits come from the workspace pool (not your account balance). Your account credits are completely separate.

For the full details, see the Workspace Credits guide.

Refunds

If a generation fails (server error, image provider issue, etc.), credits are automatically refunded to the source — monthly credits go back to your monthly balance, top-up credits go back to your top-up balance. Credits always return to where they came from.

Partial failures (e.g., 3 of 5 carousel slides succeed) refund only the failed portion.

Checking Your Usage

  • Sidebar — Your current balance is always visible
  • Subscription page — See monthly vs. top-up breakdown
  • Transaction History — Full log of every deduction, purchase, and refund

Making Credits Go Further

Set up your brand kit first. Consistent brand settings mean better results on the first try — fewer edits needed.

Be specific with edits. "Make the headline text larger and change the background to dark blue" works much better than "make it better" — and saves you from multiple edit rounds.

Check the cost before generating. The confirmation panel shows exact credit cost. A 10-slide presentation costs 150 credits — make sure you actually need all 10 slides.

Use the right format. Single images (10 credits) are much cheaper than carousels (15/slide). If your content works as a single post, don't force it into a carousel.

Common Questions

Do credits expire? Monthly credits reset when your subscription renews each billing cycle — unused ones don't carry over. Top-up credits never expire. Free plan credits are one-time and don't reset.

Can I share credits with teammates? Yes! With Workspaces, your team shares a credit pool. Owners and admins fund the pool and set allowances for each member. See the Workspace Credits guide.

What happens when I run out? You can still access and download everything you've already created. You just can't generate or edit until you add more credits (top up or wait for your monthly reset).

What if a generation fails? Credits are automatically refunded to the source. You'll see the refund in your transaction history.

Can I buy top-ups on the Free plan? Yes. Top-ups are available on all plans. Note that Free plan outputs still include watermarks and 2K resolution — upgrading to a paid plan removes those limitations.

Is the first edit really free? For Free plan users, yes — your very first image edit costs zero credits. After that, edits cost 10 credits each.
